5 Signs You've Found “The One” According to the Bible

5 Signs You've Found "The One" According to the Bible

Wondering how to know if you’ve found “the one?” While the Bible won’t give you a yes or no answer, it can be helpful in identifying if the person you’re dating will make a good, godly partner. Here are five signs from the Bible that could indicate you've found your soulmate.

1. They Are Patient and Kind

The first sign is all about love. If your partner shows patience and kindness and is quick to forgive, this mirrors the biblical description of love. A strong relationship requires these qualities, and they're a good indication that you might have found "the one."

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

2. They Encourage Your Growth

Just as iron sharpens iron, a good partner will help you grow and become a better person. If the person you’re dating challenges you, supports you, and encourages your personal growth, that's a pretty solid sign.

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17

3. They Respect and Honor You

The Bible emphasizes the importance of treating each other with respect. This could look like apologizing when you're wrong instead of letting pride get in the way, not raising your voice during disagreements, or simply turning off your phone to give them your full attention when they talk about their day. If the person you’re dating does stuff like that, they could be “the one.”

“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” Romans 12:10

4. They Are Faithful and Committed

Commitment is a major theme in the Bible when it comes to relationships. If your partner is faithful and shows commitment to you and the relationship, it aligns with the biblical view of a strong bond.

“So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Matthew 19:6

5. They Love You As Themselves

The Bible says a man should love his wife as he loves himself. This is a powerful statement about the depth of love in a relationship. If the person you’re dating loves you unconditionally and selflessly, this could be a sign that you've found "the one."

“In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.” Ephesians 5:28

Keep in mind that while these scriptures focus on how we should treat each other in general, they are a good guideline for relationships, too. If these signs resonate with you and your relationship, you might have found the person you're meant to spend your life with, according to the Bible.
