How to Wait on God’s Timing in Your Season of Singleness
If you are experiencing a season of singleness, don’t waste the waiting! Instead, do these 6 things to patiently wait on God’s timing.
1. Remind Yourself It’s Better This Way
Because it really is. It is so much better to wait on God’s perfect timing than to rush into a relationship that isn’t right just because you don’t want to be single anymore. God is good, loving, and full of grace. He isn’t keeping someone out of your life to torture you or make you sad. This season has a purpose. Be patient and open to learning what that purpose is.
2. Read What Scripture Has to Say
Jeremiah 17:7 says it best: “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.” While this passage of scripture isn’t talking specifically about your season of singleness, it still applies to how you should wait on God’s timing during it. Trust God and be confident He knows what He is doing because He does.
3. Do Some Self-Reflecting
Single seasons are the perfect time for self-reflection. You don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend requiring extra time or attention, so you can spend more time focused on bettering yourself. Since you don’t have a dating relationship, work on strengthening your relationship with Jesus. Find areas in your life where you can improve and be even better prepared to have a healthy and happy relationship when the time comes.
4. Pray… and Pray Some More
If you’re experiencing a loooong season of singleness, it can be really hard to stay positive and confident that Mr. or Mrs. right is right around the corner. To keep yourself from compromising and dating someone you know isn’t the person God has for you, it’s going to take some prayer. Pray and ask God to give you the patience required to go through this season of singleness well and without compromise. Ask God what it is He wants you to do or learn during this season to prepare you for the person He does have for you.
5. Don’t Just Focus on the Future
If you’re constantly dreaming about the day when you find your soulmate and live happily ever after, it can take away from all of the good things happening in your life right now. While you’re waiting on God’s timing in your season of singleness, be intentionally present. Focus on the amazing relationships you do have, volunteer at a non-profit, pursue a career goal, discover God’s calling on your life and go after it!
6. Know that Seasons Don’t Last Forever
In Biblical times, some notable people never found their special someone. But if you’ve prayed and believe God intends for you to be married one day, it will happen. It just might not happen when you want it to. Just remember, your single season won’t last forever. Who knows, maybe you’ll end up finding your partner on a Christian dating app like Upward. How cool would that be?!
